LightPaper · Privacy

Your newspaper is private.

LightPaper stores your editorial preferences and dated issues in the configured Netlify Blob store. Your Organizer Desk link contains a private editing key. The separate reader link allows reading without permission to change your edition or sources. Treat both links as private.

What we store

A newspaper ID, a cryptographic hash of its access key, your choices of topics and news sources, and generated daily editions. The admin list does not expose your private reading key.

News sources and rights

LightPaper retrieves metadata and short descriptions from the RSS/Atom sources you have chosen and links to original publisher reporting. The software itself is supplied without third-party news feeds, stories or photographs. Each reader privately chooses their own sources. Feed availability and automated access depend on each publisher’s rules; selling an empty software tool does not itself grant content licences. Do not redistribute editions or reprint full articles without permission. Adding summaries does not waive copyright requirements.

Optional AI editor

AI editorial notes are disabled by default. If you explicitly enable them and the site has an AI provider configured, feed titles and short extracts for that edition are sent to that provider for source-grounded wording. Full article pages and private Organizer/Reader keys are not sent. Check the provider’s data handling terms before enabling the feature.

Data sharing and security

News-feed requests originate from the server. Opening an original article sends you to that publisher's website, which follows its own privacy rules. LightPaper does not cache feed images or full article bodies. API responses are marked no-store, and the site uses a no-referrer policy to help protect private links. Anyone who gets your Organizer key can change your settings. A reader key grants viewing only.

Storage lifecycle

Saved editions and profiles persist until explicitly removed or replaced. The private Organizer Desk allows JSON export of preferences and all stored editions, replacement of the one-time recovery code, and deletion of the newspaper including its editions and publication jobs from active storage. Deletion blocks further scheduled publishing. A content-free randomized deletion marker may be retained to prevent regeneration after erasure; hosting backups and provider logs may follow separate retention periods.

Recover a lost Organizer link

A one-time recovery code is shown at creation and can be rotated from the Desk. Only a hash is saved by LightPaper. Recover newspaper access. Using it rotates both the private editing key and the read-only key, so old links must be replaced. Existing papers can generate a recovery code from their Desk. No email-based recovery is available.

Optional subscription billing

When commercial billing is enabled, Stripe hosts payment checkout and the billing portal and retains the customer and transaction details required for payment handling. LightPaper stores the Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, billing status and last verification time beside your newspaper ID. LightPaper does not send your news source selections, editions, access links or recovery code to Stripe. Unpaid or expired newspapers remain editable and exportable but new publications and e-paper reading are blocked until payment is confirmed. Deleting a newspaper first attempts to cancel the linked subscription, then deletes its locally stored billing association. Stripe may retain legally required financial records under its own policies. The service operator must publish complete business/legal contact details and payment terms before public sale.

Printing

Print and Save as PDF run locally in your browser; LightPaper does not email the edition or upload the printout. In the one-page A4 version, especially long headlines and extracts are deliberately shortened for legibility; the e-paper retains the full source headline and links to the publisher.
